Security Guard Card
Security Guard Card Training
Most states require all security officers to possess a security guard card. In California the requirements are a little more rigorous than most states; you must take an eight hour training course, pass a criminal background check, and get fingerprinted. You also have to be at least eighteen years old.
The cost involved in acquiring a security guard card or ‘license,’ as it is commonly referred to, depends upon what state you live in, but it isn’t very expensive. In California, you should expect to spend around $175 to $250 total which mainly depends on the cost of the course fees . Typically, the cost breakdown is as follows:
| Class or Course Instruction Fee | $60 – $125 |
| California Guard Card Application Fee | $50 |
| State Online Processing Fee | $1 |
| Live Scan Fees (fingerprinting) | $60 – $76 |
| Total Fees |
$171 – $252 |
At only $60, we at Guard Training Online pride ourselves on being one of the most affordable fully licensed training centers in the State of California. Plus, we offer the added convenience of being able to train from anywhere you have access to a computer on your schedule.
But there are many places to be trained. Choose wisely. First, as already stated, find out what your state requirements are before you sign up with a school. There may be a few guard training centers near where you live, but make sure they are approved by your state. Otherwise, you will not get approved for security guard card and will not be able to work. At Guard Training Online, we are fully approved and authorized by BSIS, which is the California state-run body that oversees all security guard card regulations. Our online security course will be, again, very convenient and very well-priced. Check back on our homepage soon for more information.
After you are trained and submitted the required paperwork to the BSIS, you will be able to check the status of your application online. What is great about this is you can print up a copy of your security guard card prior to the hard copy, which is typically mailed to you in seven to ten business days to arrive.
There are numerous guard firms who are always looking for good, reliable, security officers. Employment is not hard to come by. The salary, at first, is not particularly good, averaging roughly $9.00 dollars an hour but can increase substantially as you gain experience and pursue further training. The more certification you have, the more money you will make.
Once you have your license and are a working security officer, make sure to check the status of your security guard card every now and then. In California, the actual license is good for two years, but, remember, every state has their own requirements and limitations. Most states enforce some sort of ongoing training. Stay in touch with your state’s current rules and regulations because they can change periodically.
